Sandusky County Dog Warden's Office Adoption Philosophy
IF YOU ARE ADOPTING FROM A RESCUE, OR HAVE RECEIVED INFORMATION VIA EMAIL PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING CAREFULLY BEFORE PROCEDING TO ADOPT A DOG.
The following sources only are recognized by this office as legitimate sources for information on our dogs:
This web site.
Our office at 419-334-2372.
Our email at: scdandk@glis.cc or sanduskycountydogs@yahoo.com.
Some organizations and people "cut and paste" pictures of our dogs from petfinder.com and email them with information not approved by this office. These emails do NOT come from this office, nor are they representative of the views of this office.
Our office does not use negative, and sensational communications to increase our adoption rate. Our industry has found this to be counterproductive to the overall adoption rate in the long run. It is also better to have a good adoption than to have people take dogs they really cannot afford or want. Our office uses the following statement as our guide in our operation regarding the adoption of dogs:
TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY ANIMAL SHELTER
(AMERICAN HUMANE ASSOCIATION)
CLIENT FRIENDLY:
TREATS PUBLIC WITH GENINE CORTESY AND RESPECT ALWAYS.
PRACTICES OPEN ADOPTION.
MATCHES, DOESN’T SCREEN WHEN CONNECTING A PET WITH A NEW GUARDIAN (OWNER)
ENOCURAGES RETURN OF ADOPTIONS THAT DO NOT WORK OUT AND DOES NOT SCOLD OR CONDEMN WHEN ANIMALS ARE BROUGHT BACK.
RECOGNIZES THAT ADOPTION IS A CRITICAL CLIENT/SHELTER INTERACTION AND TREATS THE ENTIRE PROCESS WTTH THE SERIOUSNESS IT DESERVES.
APPROVES ADOPTIONS AS “GIFTS” WITHIN THE ADOPTER FAMILY.
ENCOURAGES THE PUBLIC TO BRING THEIR “UNWANTED” ANIMALS TO THE SHELTER AND TREATS THEM COURTEOUSLY WHEN THEY DO.
USES LANGUAGE: “ADOPTABLE,” “POTENIALLY ADOPTABLE,” TO DESCRIBE ALL ANIMALS ENTERING THE FACILITY.
If you wish to file a formal complaint about a dog, be prepared to give our office the most information that you can. Please keep in mind, all of our work here is public knowledge. We cannot keep your name anonymous unless you can demonstrate a clear threat to your safety.
We cannot accept dog complaints by email. If you have a complaint please call our office at 419-334-2372.
We need your name and address and as much information about the dog owner as possible. The more information (name, address, type of offense) that you can give the better we can do our job. We do not handle barking dogs, cats, or wildlife.
We have to see a violation to issue a citation, UNLESS you wish to sign a sworn statement. Keep in mind false statements can be prosecuted as perjury.
Due to budget constraints regarding overtime and staff limitations the dog warden's office does not respond to after hours complaints except in the case of emergency dog bites. Resolution 2008-27 Section 2.
