Reporting a Lost Dog

1.    Contact the dog warden’s office at (419) 334-2372. Our office will fill out a lost dog report. Give us the most detailed description of your dog possible. The more you can tell us about your dog, the easier identification will be for us. We receive almost 500 dogs per year, and detailed descriptions are a must! The color of the collar is also extremely helpful.
LOST DOG FORM: This form may be downloaded and mailed to: Sandusky County Dog Warden, 1950 Countryside Place, Fremont, Ohio 43420. You may also send e-mail to: scdandk@glis.ccPICTURES OF YOUR DOG ARE WELCOME.

2.    Visit our shelter to look for your dog. Our employees work very hard to help identify your dog, but many dogs look a great deal alike. Also, every dog that is brought to our kennel is scanned for a microchip. The dog is also compared to all lost dog reports on hand before the impoundment is complete.

Information need for lost dog report: Breed/type of dog. Color(s) of dog. Age of dog. Color(s) of collar, if any. Tags on collar, if any. Dog's name. Owner's name. Owner's address. Owners contact number (and if available for distribution). Area (address) where dog was lost if not same as owner's address. Date lost, and date reporting. Any special characteristics, and/or microchips/tattoo's.

The more information you can give us about the dog, the better we can identify the dog.

Complaints:

If you wish to file a formal complaint about a dog, be prepared to give our office the most information that you can. Please keep in mind, all of our work here is public knowledge. We cannot keep your name anonymous unless you can demonstrate a clear threat to your safety.

We cannot accept dog complaints by email. If you have a complaint please call our office at 419-334-2372.

We need your name and address and as much information about the dog owner as possible. The more information (name, address, type of offense) that you can give the better we can do our job. We do not handle barking dogs, cats, or wildlife.

We have to see a violation to issue a citation, UNLESS you wish to sign a sworn statement. Keep in mind false statements can be prosecuted as perjury.

Due to budget constraints regarding overtime and staff limitations the dog warden's office does not respond to after hours complaints except in the case of emergency dog bites. Resolution 2008-27 Section 2.
